The History and Concept of Sexology

Pages 68-71 | Published online: 22 Jan 2015

Abstract

The works of early European sexology have been largely forgotten because of their destruction by Hitler and the Nazis. As a result, the now available sexological literature is deficient or even misinformed about the history of sexology. As this history shows, sexology is not, and cannot be, a special discipline of the medical sciences. However, it is fully justified, and indeed necessary, as an interdisciplinary academic effort.
