Abstract
One of the least discussed and most disturbing concerns of the spinal cord injured patient is the effect of the disability on sexual functioning. Of equal importance is the frequently voiced concern of health professionals regarding their ability to deal with and counsel the patients concerning their sexual questions and problems. Although there has been a considerable amount of medically oriented research concerning the physiological and anatomical aspects, there has been a lack of investigation regarding the psychological aspects of sexual disability. Not until the recent past has the globalized stereotype, that the physically disabled do not have sexual interests, been refuted. Based on the assumption that disabled individuals have the same sexual needs as able-bodied persons, this paper will provide information about counseling the spinal cord injured female and the female partner of a spinal cord injured male. The information was obtained from knowledge and experience.
