Abstract
Utilizing androgyny awareness as a key to understanding roles within relationships, this study demonstrates the methods and results obtained with a group of 27 couples who sought counseling for relationship problems. Change in relational patterns, resulting in either improvement of the relationship or dissolution of it, based on two parameters: subjective reports by the clients and change in self-assessment as evidenced by movement on the Bern Sex Role Inventory validates the use of androgyny awareness as a psychotherapeutic instrument. This paper presents an overview of the process used.
