Adolescents' Questions About Sexuality

Pages 39-41 | Published online: 22 Jan 2015

Abstract

In order better to understand the sexual interests and concerns of adolescents, 120 adolescents anonymously submitted a total of 130 questions about sexuality. Based upon the contents of these questions, seven categories were developed by three independent judges, representing distinct areas of sexual interest. The results indicated that adolescents asked the highest frequency of questions concerning Sociosexual issues, followed by questions assigned to Pregnancy, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Sexual Performance, Contraception, Psychosexual, and Anatomy/Physiology categories in that order. The results also indicated that adolescent boys and girls were more alike than different in their sexual interests. Results are discussed in relation to their importance for the development of adolescent sex education programs and curricula.
