Putting Women First: The Teaching of Female Sexuality

&
Pages 17-22 | Published online: 22 Jan 2015

Abstract

Most college-level courses in human sexuality focus on male sexuality as the norm for sexual behavior. The authors discuss why this situation exists and, in an effort to counteract the problem of sexism in teaching human sexuality, describe an interdisciplinary sexuality course that focuses exclusively on the female. A discussion of methodology, philosophy, and the advantages of this approach to teaching sexuality is included. An ideal sequence of sex education courses at the college level is suggested by these considerations.
