Abstract
Despite the vitality of most older adults and their interest in sexual intimacy, the failure of others to view sexuality as a significant dimension of their lives is pervasive and potentially damaging. In an effort to promote positive sexual health for seniors, health care professionals are challenged to 1) educate and sensitize the professional community, 2) dismantle age stereotypes, 3) empower elders with sexual knowledge and skills, 4) embrace diversity in sexual expression, and 5) create “sexuality-positive” environments for institution-bound elders.
