Abstract
This study examined professional development for the field of human sexuality from a student's perspective. E-mail was utilized to solicit participation in completing a questionnaire designed to describe the student experience of training for professional work in the field of sexuality and to ascertain the student view of the future of the field. The sentiments of 30 students, as well as those of the authors, were incorporated into this qualitative research project. These voices represent an initial attempt at revealing how students negotiate the passion and politics of working in the field of sexuality Respondents described themes related to passion for the field, creating academic and professional opportunities in order to fulfill their goals, support and mentoring from faculty and peers, and ambiguity over the future of sexuality. Emergent themes provide one interpretation of the student experience in light of related literature.
