Abstract
Preparation of sexuality educators is a process that can be effectively accomplished in the university setting within a comprehensive health education program. A comprehensive university education allows the future educator to develop a strong knowledge base, engage in the process of becoming a sexually healthy human being, and develop the skills needed to facilitate learning and personal growth for others. University programs include essential content courses in sexuality and in supporting content areas, in addition to professional development courses focusing on the skills needed by successful practitioners. The extended period of time afforded by a university education allows ongoing practice of these skills for personal and professional growth. Programs that take into account national certification requirements can provide future educators the opportunity to become certified in a timely fashion, thus increasing their credibility and marketability.
