On the Two-Phase Ratio Estimator in Finite Populations

Pages 839-845 | Received 01 Feb 1974, Published online: 05 Apr 2012

Abstract

Modified ratio estimators for the mean are proposed for the case in which the first- and second-phase samples are drawn without replacement and independent of each other. Conditions for these estimators to be more efficient than the classical estimator are investigated. Two methods for evaluating the expectation of the reciprocal of the number of distinct units are presented.
