Abstract
The focus is upon the initial or preservice training of students and to what extent students can be guided to bridge the gap between theory and practice in their field experience (Teaching Practice) by means of distance education. The entire Teaching Practice program of the HED student at Unisa is contained in a tutorial letter (workbook) as an instrument towards guided self study.
