The Maryland Redesign of Teacher Education: A Commitment to System Reform

&
Pages 1-15 | Published online: 06 Jan 2012

Abstract

The authors trace the national reform movement in teacher education and make explicit connections between elements of that reform and a particular instance of statewide reform in the state of Maryland. Components in the The Holmes Group, Carnegie Commission, NCATE, and the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards are compared and contrasted to the components of Maryland's Redesign of Teacher Education. The authors conclude with a challenge to other states to share their reform efforts to enrich the national dialogue.
