&
Pages 4-24 | Published online: 19 Jul 2012

ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we explore what would be necessary to bring about a Schwab-like renaissance in the field of teacher education. We examine the changing parameters defining what is meant by teacher education, and describe common themes before launching into a more detailed discussion of current issues facing the field of teacher education. Throughout our discussion, we intersperse Schwabian notions such as the curriculum commonplaces, the process of deliberation in education, and thoughts on the how, what, and why of inquiry extracted from his essays. We conclude by drawing attention to practices that infuse teacher education with a Schwab-like vision.
