Fishy business: Skippers’ scams in the southern California party boat fleet

Pages 133-156 | Received 05 May 1992, Accepted 14 Sep 1992, Published online: 18 May 2010

This article is an ethnographic study of workplace deviance as it manifests itself in a cohort of commercial sport boat skippers in Southern California. It is shown that the infraction patterns directed at other boats in the fleet as well as at their passenger‐clients are normalized responses to the unique features of their work setting.
