Chlorophenol profile throughout development of the american dog tick, Dermacentor variabilis (Say)

Abstract

A trichlorophenol and 2,4-dichlorophenol are reported in nymphs and males of Dermacentor variabilis (Say) for the first time. Their absence in larvae suggests that production occurs sometime during or after the moult from blood ingested by a previous developmental stage, presumably as a mechanism of desalination.
