Abstract
Austrocarabodes ensifer (Sellnick, Citation1931) is redescribed and illustrated based on adult specimens using optical microscopy as well as scanning electron microscopy. Aokiella florens Balogh & Mahunka, Citation1967 and Singabodes rarus Mahunka, Citation1998 are redescribed and figured based on adult specimens using optical microscopy only. These three species are the type species of their respective genera, thus allowing us to redefine each. Although it is likely that Singabodes may be a synonym for Aokiella, further study is necessary to resolve the uncertainty.
Acknowledgements
During our revision of the family Carabodidae, we encountered many difficulties in obtaining type materials but we were also fortunate to encounter some researchers who kindly assisted us. Peter J. Schwendinger (Dr. Sc.), Curator of the Department of Arthropodology and Entomology at the Museum d'Histoire Naturelles, Geneva, is especially thanked for his support in facilitating our research. Well preserved specimens of Au. ensifer Sellnick, Citation1931 and S. rarus, Mahunka, Citation1998, were obtained. Without his assistance it would have been an impossible task. We are also grateful to Dr. László Dányi, HNHM, for assisting us in obtaining type specimens of Ao. florens. The paratype of S. rarus, deposited in the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest, was impossible to obtain. We acknowledge the valuable comments made by each of the reviewers, which without doubt contributed to the quality of this paper.
