ABSTRACT

Distigmesikya deroptyi, n. sp., is described from the Hawk-Headed Parrot, Deroptyus accipitrinus (L.). Mite specimens were obtained from avian study skins collected in Guyana, Surinam, and Brazil. From the feather mite associations, it is suggested that the monotypic host genus should be placed near Ara and Anodorhynchus rather than the common placement near Amazona and Triclaria.
