Abstract

The biological parameters of Neoseiulus californiens (McGregor) preying on Tetranychus urticae Koch of tomato and strawberry were compared. Developmental times were unaffected either by the host plant or by the T. urticae strain. However, sex ratio, mortality and oviposition were more advantageous on strawberry. The worst performance was observed in the second generation on tomato (estimated rm = 0.118 day-1); only after numerous generations on this plant the estimated rm increased to 0.256 day-1 and was similar to those registered on strawberry.
