Abstract

A 24-year-old female patient suffering from hearing loss of the right ear, bilateral visual field defects, memory loss, and ataxia was examined using kinetic and static threshold perimetry, fluorescein angiography, indocyanine green angiography, and electrophysiological examinations. The observation period covered 18 months.

The patient was diagnosed as having Susac syndrome. Worldwide, fewer than 100 cases have been reported. Until now, a proven therapy has been lacking. This patient improved in terms of static threshold visual fields and multifocal electroretinogram after therapy with intravenous immunoglobulins, intravenous high-dose corticosteroids, aspirin, and nimodipine.
