Modulation of the rate of spermatogenesis by the central nervous system of the tobacco budworm, Heliothis virescens

Summary

The rate of development of spermatocysts in the larva of the tobacco budworm moth, Heliothis virescens appears to be modulated by stimulatory factors from the brain and inhibitory factors from the suboesophageal ganglion. Intact nerve connections between these organs and the ventral nerve cord must be vital to normal functioning of this system in vivo.
