Identification of subtypes of learning-disabled children at three age levels: A neuropsychological, multivariate approach

Abstract

Utilizing a multivariate statistical technique, 80% of learning-disabled children at three different age levels were classified into subtypes on the basis of their performances on a comprehensive battery of neuropsychological tests; 54% of the subjects were classified into subtypes that were replicable across two or more age levels. Descriptions of the subtypes that were “replicated” across age in terms of their patterns of performance on the test battery are provided. In addition, comparisons with sub-types identified by other investigators and some implications with respect to developmental considerations in the neuropsychological investigation of learning-disabled children are presented.
