Respiration rate (QO2) gradient in the endosperm and embryo during the exponential phase of its growth

Pages 285-288 | Published online: 08 Feb 2017

Summary

QO2 gradient (chalaza → micropyle) in the coat and endosperm tissue in ovules of Haemanthus Katharinae, elongation of the embryo proceeding in the direction opposite to that of the decreasing QO2 gradients in these tissues were found. In embryos of about 80 days old a change in the direction of the QO2 gradient from chalazal → micropylar into a micropylar → chalazal one takes place.
