Summary

The Prephanerogams, a phylum proposed by Emberger, group ovulate plants that do not differentiate seeds, and are—link between Pteridophytes and Spermaphytes. It is suggested to substitute the term Prespermaphytes (Prespermaphyta) for Prephanerogams. The two classes Progymnosperms (Progymnospermopsida) and Proangiosperms (Proangiospermopsida), made up of would be ancestors of Gymnosperms and Angiosperms respectively, is based on controversial interpretations of various fossils these two classes should be dropped.
