ABSTRACT

An experiment was conducted with six doses of phosphorus (P) and three placements to judge their effects on yield under gangetic alluvial soil. Univariate analysis of variance revealed that 60 kg ha−1 P in combination with placement at 5 cm are the best with respect to different vegetative ant yield characters. Correlation and path analysis revealed that yield has got significant negative correlation with leaf dry weight. A direct negative effect of fresh weights of leaves was also evident from the path coefficient analysis. Multivariate cluster analysis following complete linkage using Euclidean distance by forming dendrogram could identify four clusters taking all the characters together. The treatment combinations T5 (2.5 cm, 60 kg ha−1), T11 (5.0 cm, 60 kg ha−1), T17 (7.5 cm, 60 kg ha−1) along with T10 (5.0 cm, 45 kg ha−1) are found to be the best lot of treatments for growth and yield of onion.
