Abstract

The use of the nutrient film technique for growth of crops in sewage effluent has demonstrated the need to provide an iron supplement to the plants. Work at Portsmouth Polytechnic has studied several techniques by which iron may be added to the plant root block and also to the plant leaves. The results of the studies show clearly that one technique is particularly successful. Plants grown using this method can produce crop yield comparable with commercial practice.
