Abstract
The north‐western Kedah and Peril's plain is a flat alluvial region devoted largely to double cropping of rice under a modern irrigation system. The area is also ecologically suitable for mango production which requires natural moisture stress to stimulate flowering. This stress is provided by a drought period which occurs naturally in the region. However, not all trees which flower profusely set fruits and carry towards maturity.
A simple experiment on the use of flower inducer and water showed the importance of the former in mango production. The application of this result is discussed in relation to the future expansion of mango within the region.
