Abstract

Nonionic gemini surfactant (G868) was prepared through Claisen condensation, substitution, and transesterification using ethyl caprylate, ethyl formate, 1,6-dibromohexane, and glycerol as materials. The chemical structure of the intermediate and the targeted product were tested by FTIR, 1HNMR, and elemental analysis, andG868's performances were also examined. The result indicated that the CMC and γcmc were 0.004 mmol L−1 and 29.1 m Nm−1, respectively. In comparison with the properties of glycerol caprylate, wetting ability is powerful; emulsifying capability is excellent, and soap dispersancy is better. In addition, it is a nicer anti-dropping agent used in plastic film.
