Abstract

The adsorption of different types of nonionic and anionic surfactants from aqueous solutions onto polyvinyl alcohol has been studied at different temperatures using surface tension measurements. The nonionic surfactants show Langmuirian L-shape isotherms whereas the adsorption isotherms of the anionic surfactants exhibit segmoidal shape. The experimental adsorption isotherms could be fitted to the Langmuir equation and the values of Γmax and Amin have been calculated. The effect of temperature on the adsorption process as well as on both efficiency and effectiveness of adsorption has been studied.
