Integrating a Humanistic Approach in Outpatient Sex Offender Groups

Abstract

Cognitive-behavioral and relapse prevention models are currently the treatments of choice among sex offender treatment providers. This article recommends integrating humanistic principles within treatment programs in order to maximize the power of group psychotherapy. Humanistic treatment processes and therapist characteristics that improve therapeutic outcomes in sex offenders are described.
