Abstract

Parallel processing offers a number of potential advantages especially in real-time systems. Until recently the high cost of both processor and software has discouraged their development. The overwhelming increase in the capabilities of microprocessors in the recent years coupled with their decreasing cost and power requirements has engendered great interest in parallel microprocessing systems

This paper presents a survey of the architecture of various parallel processing networks with emphasis on their characteristics, categorization and implementation in recent developments. An attempt is made to describe how the solution to the majority of cybernetic problems can efficiently be implemented using a suitable parallel processing configuration.
