LEARNING ABOUT SYSTEMS

Pages 297-316 | Received 01 Sep 1980, Published online: 22 Oct 2007

Abstract

Until recently, little attention has been paid to the problems of teaching about systems or creating a learning environment in which systems learning can take place. Recently, however, in the United Kingdom, three formal university groups devoted to teaching students about systems ideas and practice have emerged. This article discusses the problems of systems teaching. It then presents a development of a teaching strategy, from basic terms through development of systems skills and motivation and confidence building, and finally illustrates a systems library. An appendix describing the Open university systems courses is presented.
