Abstract
Methods for determining polyhedral core sizes {rom prismatic blade debitage are derived using mathematical models of the blake removal process. These methods are evaluated experimentally and found to be accurate. They can therefore be used with confidence for the analysis of archaeological materials, and should contribute to comparative studies of blade core technology. Furthermore, the results can be used to derive quantitative estimates of the productivity of lithic industries, which should further elucidate prehistoric systems of blade production and exchange.
