The Effects of Lithic Procurement Strategies on Tool Curation and Recycling

Pages 3-11 | Published online: 25 Aug 2016

Abstract

>Significant variability is embedded within the concepts of tool curation and recycling. This variability is discussed within the contexts of both mobile and sedentary systems by employing a case study from the Eastern Maya Lowlands. The effect of procurement strategies on the protracted use of stone tools is outlined for systems with direct and indirect lithic procurement. The role of environmental variables in the interaction between human organization and technological needs is discussed.
