Hinge Fracture Mechanics

Pages 17-20 | Published online: 01 Apr 2016

ABSTRACT

Hinge fractures form when primary compression just below the fracture process zone is lost at a faster rate than that from outward leverages on the flake's termination. Hinge rolls of 90–180 degree develop a second flaking platform subsequent to the initial 90+ degree roll, a characteristic that identifies early stage hinges.
