Paleolithic Wedge-Shaped Microcores and Experiments with Pocket Devices

Abstract

The production of microblades using wedgeshaped microcores was common for a long time during the final Pleistocene and early Holocene of Northeast Asia. The extensive literature devoted to this phenomenon reflects primarily morphological and typological approaches. The focus of this paper is the interpretative advantage of experimental studies to the lithic technology of this area. In the process. Far Eastern archaeological mate-rials and reduction sequences are discussed.
