ABSTRACT
The Corporate Income Tax Law 43/1995 set up a special tax regime for small business. According to this rule, small firms can benefit from tax reductions, with a final decrease, at least in theory, in their effective tax rates.
This paper aims to analyze, on the one hand, the evolution of small business tax burden in Valencian Community from 1992 to 1999, in order to verify if there exists a reduction on their effective fiscal burden, as a result of the application of the specific tax regime for these firms. On the other hand, the paper looks for an identification and definition ot a set of financial variables that could explain this tax burden evolution and thus charaterize the economic and financial structure of those firms with lower effective tax rates, before and after the Corporate Income Tax Reform.
