ABSTRACT
The Spanish General Accounting Plan, which is the basic accounting norm in the country, has been developed upon the basis of the mercantile societies. Subsequently, it misses most of the co-operative specifities, additionally the co-operative regulation is characterised by a multilegislative framework. All this justifies the need of an adjustment of the accounting standards to the co-operative societies that have been developed. Therefore, the equity's special features of the cooperative organizations as well as the alternative accounting options are studied. To do this, by applying the Delphi methodology, the solutions implemented by the norm have been evaluated. This normalizing process coincides with the current adoption by the EU of the International Financial Reporting Standards, in which the issue of the cooperative's equity, becomes a tricky issue and therefore it is analysed in the paper.
