ABSTRACT

Research on environmental planning in preschool aged handicapped children's classroom is practically inexistent. The present study focuses on the classroom's physical components. Ideally the classroom setting should promote social interaction, facilitate learning and communication, control disruptive behaviour, develop independence and stimulate a correct behaviour in teachers. Environmental arrangements favouring these behaviours are described. It is important to evaluate these arrangements or lay outs and determine if a specific framework covers the special needs of handicapped children.
