Intervention in Autism Spectrum Disorder, ASD. Milestones and challenges (Intervención en el Trastorno del Espectro del Autismo TEA. Hitos y retos)

ABSTRACT

Ángel Rivière’s contributions to intervention in Autism Spectrum Disorder are of enormous depth and express a vision of intervention focused on promoting satisfactory and humanly significant internal experiences in people with autism, from a framework based on values. This perspective is a clear parallelism with the development that is unfolding in the field of intervention in autism, marked by individual rights, by the search for their well-being and that of their environment, from their strengths and not exclusively from their limitations, and all of this based on evidence-based knowledge and practice and a deep understanding of the disorder. These milestones in the development of the intervention also entail new challenges, such as not leaving behind people with autism and greater needs requiring support, or the need to rethink support services and the role of professionals in light of new advances. Rivière had already oriented his thinking and discourse in these directions 20 years ago.

RESUMEN

Las aportaciones de Ángel Rivière a la intervención en el Trastorno del Espectro del Autismo son de enorme profundidad, expresando una visión de la intervención centrada en promover en las personas con autismo experiencias internas satisfactorias y humanamente significativas, desde un marco de valores. Esta visión es de un claro paralelismo con el desarrollo que se va desplegando en el ámbito de la intervención en autismo, marcado por los derechos de las personas, por la búsqueda de su bienestar y el de su entorno, desde sus fortalezas y no solo desde sus limitaciones, y todo ello desde un conocimiento y una práctica basada en evidencias y en la comprensión profunda del trastorno. Estos hitos en el desarrollo de la intervención conllevan también nuevos retos, tales como no dejar atrás a las personas con autismo y mayores necesidades de apoyo, o como la necesidad de repensar a la luz de los nuevos avances los servicios de apoyo y el rol profesional. Rivière ya orientaba su pensamiento y su discurso en estas direcciones 20 años atrás.
