ABSTRACT

This article describes a study on cognitive development of two aboriginal groups with a diverse degree of contact with European civilization and tries to relate development rhythm in different areas with ecological and cultural characteristics. Several considerations are included to clarify both variables -degree of contact and ecological/cultural- and hypothesis, method and investigation results are presented afterwards. Finally, method and results are discussed in relation to the three hypothesis and it is pointed out in the conclusions that “environmentalism” plus ecological and cultural factors facilitate the development of certain conceptual areas more than others.
