Abstract

The aim of thes present paper is to compare the efficacy of two treatments, Self-instruction (SI) and Problem-Solving (SP), to reduce the children impulsivity, and to improve the academic achievement. Impulsive fourth and fifth grade of EGB children (selected from the MFF-20 test) were randomly assigned to one of two contitions (SI or SP, eighteen sessions each) or to the control group. Results show the superior efficacy of SP treatment, since latencies on the MFF-20 test increased (p <.01); furthermore, the latencies and errors of this group differed from these obtained by the other groups (p <.01). On the other hand, limited changes on academic achievement were observed, although they suggest the superiority of SP again. These results suggest the need of analyzing the contribution degree of each procedure to the Impulsivity reduction when a multicomponent treatment is used. Specifically, the contribution of SI components inthese types of treatments seems to be very limited.
