Self-concepts as conditioning factor in the efficiency of feed-back on performance

Pages 195-211 | Published online: 29 Apr 2014

Abstract

The object of this research, carried out with a sample of 118 pupils of the 5th level of E.C.B., was to check the influence of feedback in the performance of a test of academic knowledge, and also to establish whether the students' academic self-concept mediates in the efficiency of feedback. The sample was divided into three categories, taking into account the marking obtained from a self-concept academic test. Each category was subdivided into three equivalent groups, giving each group a different type of feedback (positive, negative, neutral). In four groups the feedback was efficient in the expected way, being more receptive those pupils who have a more positive opinion of themselves.
