Some Research Applications in Identifying and Measuring Skills in Language

Pages 25-34 | Published online: 13 Mar 2008

ABSTRACT

Over a period of some thirty years, the writer has been engaged in research studies designed to identify and measure skills in English. All of these studies were oriented towards the testing of language rather than the teaching of language. In most cases, the studies were concerned with the identification and measurement of language skills among native speakers of English, but one large-scale study was concerned with the measurement of English skills among Indo-Chinese refugee students arriving in Australia with little or no knowledge of English.
