A comparative study of estimators for probabilities in contingency tables

Abstract

We discuss techniques for estimating the structure of cell probabilities associated with the multinomial distribution in contingency tables. Some numerical results illustrate the behavior of different types of estimators and lead to the recommendation of an adaptive smoothing estimator
