Stronger Gomory cuts by multidimensional knapsack problems

Abstract

A method is described to strengthen Gomory cuts by parallel shifts. By way of multidimensional knapsack problems derived from an optimal continuous simplex tableau, lower bounds are computed for the best possible value of the right-hand side of Gomory cuts. For two of the three methods that are discussed to compute these lower bounds, numerical results are given.
