Abstract
GIS-based 3D landscape visualization has been proven to be effective in assisting effective visual communication of spatial planning content to both experts and laymen. Different types of 3D visualizations vary in their degree of realism (photo-realistic, abstract) and interactivity (still images, animations, real-time models) and show different strengths that are both required throughout the planning process. This disP Service Section gives an overview of currently available 3D visualization products and their characteristics with regard to GIS/CAD compatibility, possible degree of realism, degree of interactivity with the model, and whether they are commercial, non-commercial or open source products.
