Abstract

This paper gives an introduction about library systems in general including history as well as progression of their services timewise. It gives as well definitions, concepts, goals, importance, and organization charts of libraries. It covers impact of new technology on library services, many examples of automated libraries in various countries are presented. A table which summarizes DEC’s alphaserver new technologies as well as up-to-date equipment. This paper introduces and discusses various library system architectures such as Local, Nationwide, and International Library System Architectures. Finally, this paper talks about futuristic library system architecture which makes use of up-to-date computer technologies that suit very well library materials and services.
