Abstract

This paper presents the application offered by wavelet transform used in detecting and localizing transient disturbance in spindle motor speed for DVD-ROM. Since faulty signal is a temporary incident and this temporary distortion signal is usually not equal to zero in a tiny area, detecting temporary faulty signal with traditional analytical methods, such as Fourier transform etc, is ineffective. Since wavelet transform has good characteristics in both time and frequency domain, and suitability for multi-resolution analysis, it's an efficient method in detecting and localizing transient distortion signal. To achieve the request of real-time monitoring, we link the program module of digital signal processor built into a syscor motion control card together with a control program written in C language together to build a human machine interface to monitor spindle motor speed in a MATLAB/SIMULINK e vironment.
