An IoT based smart e-health care system

, , &

Abstract

The holistic growth of a nation largely depends on its health care systems required to cater to the basic medical facilities to its fellow citizens. In a large country like India which primarily constituted and identified by its rural segments, facilitating medical facilities and health care services are a major issue not only due to a dearth of human resource but also lack of logistic and minimum infrastructure. The rural population thus has to face tremendous consequences like traveling to urban cities for even basic medical checkup, hefty medical fees, costly accommodation etc. Telemedicine promises to solve this endmile problem in order to bring acceptable medical facilities remotely to the rural population. In this paper, we developed an IoT based smart e-health care system which is portable and convenient to use. The developed model includes Sensors, Mobile app, Bluetooth Connectivity module, and Cloud integration. The new model promises a low-cost, secure and highly adaptable interface for sharing important medical parameters between Patients, medical experts, and the remote centers. In order to avoid computational device and network unavailability issues, we introduced offline accumulation of sensory data which will automatically be uploaded to cloud on availability. The developed prototype went through testing under medical experts and the results were deemed satisfactory with a good acceptance level.
