An iterative algorithm for the removal of decaying DC components from fault currents

Abstract

Decaying DC components in fault currents always cause false operations of relay systems. This paper presents an iterative algorithm to remove such components from fault currents. In combining the proposed algorithm with the Full‐Cycle DFT (FCDFT), only one‐cycle samples are needed to obtain an accurate fundamental phasor. Thus, the proposed algorithm can help digital filters achieve accurate results rapidly. Furthermore, our simulation results illustrate the proposed algorithm's effectiveness in various fault conditions.
