A reply to Maré

Pages 140-143 | Published online: 19 Dec 2011

Abstract

It is quite clear from all his writings about Inkatha that Gerhard Maré's vision of a future South Africa differs drastically from that of Inkatha and the KwaZulu Government. This is not surprising for Mr Maré is not a member of Inkatha. Neither is Inkatha in politics to please Mr Maré. It is also clear that in many instances he seriously lacks understanding of Inkatha's policy. This again is not surprising given the fact that although he writes so regularly about Inkatha and has even published a book about the organistion, he has never once interviewed any of the two most Senior policy makers in Inkatha; i.e. the President Dr Mangusuthu Buthelezi, and myself as the Secretary-General. He relies on quotations of ten years ago, which he then distorts to fit in with his pre-conceived ideas of what Inkatha is or should be. This is quite a strange attitude which we do not expect from someone who calls himself an academic.
